Christian Hedonist

what are we but today
each passing breath
rushing from our lungs
incessantly, no rest

what am I but a fool
to ever hope to teach
for I can barely live life
let alone stand, preach

what are we but the moment
in which the world stands still
whether it is in her arms
or leaning on the windowsill

I'm a hedonist and a christian too
pain and joy God gives impartially
pain is a burden to bear, become stronger
joy is the answer to pain's mortality

For pain alone is meaningless
without a higher aim, a target to be acquired
Joy is the purpose in all the pain
Desire for joy and you shall never grow tired

Joy is the effervescent beauty of spring
to understand the thunderstorm
the power and might that it suddenly brings

Joy is the answer in trouble or in pain
Christ died to give us a reason to rejoice
and unite ,until he brings his kingdom in

If pain and sorrow come to you
learn to live and rejoice
hedonist's for Christ we are
show him in life, voice

That you still remember
when he died for you
for we are a happy few
who know this truth

Joy is why I live today
Joy in Christ to find
to live for nothing save that happiness
rejoicing state of mind

What are we but today
each passing breath
rushing from our lungs
incessantly no rest
